|
John D’Amico, the longest serving NHL Linesman, worked 1,689 regular-season games, 247 playoff games, 52 Stanley Cup final games and six international hockey series. When he left the ice in 1987 he became a Supervisor of NHL Officials. In 1993 he was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame. John’s accomplishments off the ice were just as impressive. He donated his time and participated in countless charitable events for children who were less fortunate. In October 2004, John was diagnosed with acute leukemia. During his illness he spent much of his time educating the public and raising funds in hopes of finding a cure. Along with John D’Amico, the other 2009 inductees into the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame were Doug Gilmour, Steve Ludzik, Peter Zezel, Gerry Organ and Sheilagh Croxon. The purpose of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame is to honour, for all time, those athletes, administrators, officials, media and individuals who have achieved the highest standard of excellence in sport. In perpetuating the deeds of its Honoured Members, the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame seeks to encourage and inspire excellence in all fields of athletic endeavour within the community.
