Let’s blow the whistle on blood cancers. |
|
hustle for a cure is the vision of former NHL official Angelo D’Amico. He created the program as a way of continuing the legacy of charity work that his late father, John D’Amico started. John, long-time NHL linesman, lost his battle to acute leukemia (AML) in 2005, and was known throughout his lifetime for his philanthropic activities, as well as his professional achievements. The NHL Hockey Officials Association has been a proud supporter of hustle for a cure since 2007. Like many others, the NHL community has been touched by blood cancer. John D’Amico lost his battle. However, the likes of Mario Lemieux, Saku Koivu, Jason Blake, John Cullen and Milos Holan are all survivors of blood cancers because of the research and improved treatments that are available. This is also a result of the donors and supporters of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. The Donate a Game Fee is a unique way for all members of the officials community to provide financial support to the hustle for a cure program. As well, officials wear a hustle for a cure decal on their helmets to help raise awareness. |
