Let’s blow the whistle on blood cancers.

How It All Began

The hustle for a cure event is the vision of Angelo D’Amico, son of the late John D’Amico a long-time NHL linesman, who lost his battle to acute leukemia (AML) back in 2005.

Throughout his life, John D’Amico dedicated his time to a variety of children’s charities. Toward the end of his life, John worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds in hopes of finding a cure for leukemia. After John’s death, his son Angelo wished to continue the legacy of his father’s charity work and the sense of hope it had brought to so many children and their families. With the generous support of the hockey community, officials organizations, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, hustle for a cure was born.

Blood Cancer in the World of Sports

In the world of sports, blood cancers have touched many lives, directly or indirectly. In professional hockey alone, the likes of Mario Lemieux, Saku Koivu, Jason Blake, John Cullen and Milos Holan have all been afflicted. All of these athletes were fortunate enough to win their battle. Their success is living proof of the great strides that have been achieved in the quest to defeat blood cancers, and it provides strength, inspiration and hope that a cure will eventually be found.
